Revised Policy Statement On Racial Harmony

The CitiIssues Committee of NYWA recognizes that racism in America and in New York City in particular is a most urgent issue. Oppression and the aftermath of enslavement continue to infect our society despite attempts at local and national levels to promote equality. NYWA's member organizations represent the diverse ethnic and racial mix that characterizes New York City. Through education and advocacy NYWA promotes a better understanding and respect for people of all races and ethnicities.

Therefore:

NYWA will speak out when incidents create an atmosphere of distrust and fear and persistently work toward greater racial and ethnic harmony in the City.

NYWA will meet with elected officials to encourage them to alleviate tension and misunderstanding between and among the diverse groups of citizens in New York City.
